Designed to achieve elevated levels of performance in terms of operation costs, passenger comfort, capacity, service availability and reliability, the 17 four-aluminium-car medium-capacity trains can carry up to 650 passengers and travel at up to 80km/h.

This first section of the Circular line extends from Dapinglin Station to the New Taipei Industrial Park Station, and connects with trains passing through the New Taipei City districts of Xindian, Zhonghe, Banqiao, and Xinzhuang. It includes 14 stations and a depot, and is the first stage in what will become a 52km mass rapid transit line that will enable commuters to travel directly from outer Taipei and New Taipei City, without having to first connect in downtown Taipei.

Hitachi Rail Group CEO Andrew Barr said the company was very pleased to have commissioned the first stage of the Circular line for the Department of Rapid Transit Systems (DORT) and to have supplied the vehicles for the line.
