Hitachi Rail awarded contract to modernize MRT's Jakarta Automatic Fare Collection ​ System

Hitachi Rail, in partnership with PT Softorb Technology Indonesia, has been awarded a contract by PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta (Perseroda) (MRT Jakarta) to modernize and enhance the city's fare collection system for the existing 13 stations of MRT Jakarta Phase 1.

The signing of CP111 Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Jakarta Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) System Development and Performance Improvement highlights Hitachi Rail's commitment to advancing smart mobility solutions and enhancing the customer experience through a seamless, integrated, and interoperable payment system. Under this contract fare collection infrastructure across 13 stations will be upgraded, with more than 200 devices replaced to accept various types of tickets at single-target readers installed at the AFC Gates and to integrate with a new account-based ticketing system – ​ creating a fully connected and future‑ready fare collection network.

The modernized system will improve reliability and operational efficiency while delivering an enhanced passenger experience and greater convenience. The upgraded Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system will enable seamless fare processing and interoperability supporting a fully integrated transport network in Jakarta. Passengers will benefit from expanded payment options – including EMV contactless bank cards, QR-based e-wallets, prepaid bank cards, paper tickets, and mobile QR tickets – ​ with implementation carried out smoothly and without disruption to daily operations.
