CAF has launched OPTIO, an advanced CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) signalling system that completes its portfolio of railway signalling solutions, offering an efficient, sustainable and ultra-high performance and capacity solution for the cities of the future.
OPTIO has been conceived and developed as a flexible and scalable solution, ideal to satisfy all types of operations in face of the growing demand for mobility in dense urban environments. Its advanced technology enables real-time and accurate management of rail operations, maximizing passenger flow and optimizing operational efficiency. Thanks to its automatic driving capabilities, the system can reduce energy consumption by more than 20%, contributing to a more sustainable transport system aligned with emission reduction and environmental efficiency goals.
OPTIO meets the strictest safety standards in the industry and complies with international IEEE1474 and IEC62290 standards. It has been developed to be easily integrated into all type of infrastructures, responding both to the specificities of local administrations and to global railway safety and operating regulations. This allows the solution to be deployed both on newly built lines and on existing lines that require higher capacities and performance.
Unlike classic signalling systems, it is capable of determining the exact position of each train on the line thanks to its state-of-the-art on-board control units and orchestrating the movement of all trains, significantly increasing the transport capacity of the lines. This translates into a safer, more coordinated and reliable rail service, thus improving the passenger experience.
With OPTIO, CAF reinforces its role as a leading player in the transformation of urban transport and the development of more connected and environmentally friendly cities. With the incorporation of this CBTC system, CAF includes a high-performance system aimed at improving the operations of metropolitan lines and positions CAF as a global supplier that offers complete solutions for a more efficient and sustainable mobility of the future in its portfolio of solutions
International presentation
CAF has just presented its innovation in the last quarter of the year in both Europe and America. The premiere was at InnoTrans, the world's largest trade fair with a special focus on rail transport, which is held every two years at the Messe Berlin exhibition centre (Germany). It is an ideal stage for participants to showcase their innovations.
In Spain, Rail Live, the event that brings together leaders who drive innovation, investment and digital transformation in the railway sector, hosted the presentation of OPTIO, which also included an exclusive presentation of the new solution.
The latest presentation was at the 37th Annual Congress of the Latin American Association of Metros and Subways (ALAMYS), held in Costa Rica. At the event, CAF was part of the panel 'Improvements and Future Projects of ALAMYS members' together with representatives of Metro Madrid, MetroRio, Metro de Lima, Metro de Medellin and TMB Barcelona at a table moderated by the Managing Director of Tranvía Parla (Madrid).
