Sous les pavés: Alstom employees take action to green the La Pocatière site

Alstom, global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has begun transforming a paved area at its La Pocatière production site. On September 29, 2026, approximately 30 Alstom employees manually removed more than 150 m² of asphalt. This first phase of the “Sous les pavés” project, carried out in partnership with the Organisme des bassins versants (OBV) de la Côte-du-Sud and the Centre d’écologie urbaine, will gradually transform the area into a green space that promotes biodiversity and improves stormwater management.

Ultimately, the project aims to remove and rehabilitate 1,900 m² of paved surfaces. Ahead of the activity, employees were also invited to contribute ideas for the future design of the site by proposing various greening and naturalization options. This initiative is part of the “Sous les pavés” program, which supports communities in transforming paved areas into greener spaces that are more resilient to climate change. By removing paved surfaces and replacing them with green infrastructure, the program helps reduce stormwater runoff, improve local biodiversity and create more pleasant spaces for communities. The initiative actively engages property owners, organizations, local businesses and residents in collectively transforming paved sites into cooler, welcoming and greener spaces.

“We are proud to take part in this initiative, which provides a tangible example of our commitment to having a positive impact on the environment surrounding our production sites. By transforming an underused area into a greener, more vibrant space, we are helping to improve our local environmental footprint while contributing to a meaningful project for the community,” s
aid Frédéric Platteeuw, Managing Director of Alstom’s La Pocatière site.

Initiated by the Centre d’écologie urbaine, the “Sous les pavés” project is made possible through financial support from the Government of Québec under the Action-Climat Québec program, coordinated by the Fonds d’action québécois pour le développement durable and stemming from Québec’s 2030 Plan for a Green Economy. The program’s deployment in communities across Québec is also made possible through financial support from TD Bank Group.
