The German state railway operator, Deutsche Bahn, has informed Talgo of the acceptance of the first ICE L train. With this confirmation, the formal delivery of the fleet of ICE trains of the Talgo 230 platform by the Spanish manufacturer begins.
It is a new demonstration of Talgo’s solvency and strength as a world-class train manufacturer and demonstrates the capacity of its technology and its highly qualified team. It is undoubtedly a further step in Talgo’s consolidation to provide high-quality mobility solutions in the most competitive markets, and for the company it means “having the trust of the first and largest railway operator in the European Union and that is a source of pride for all of us who work at Talgo”.
Next steps
After the formal acceptance of the first train, it is expected that in the coming weeks this year another three units will go through the same process.
They will be only the first of the 23 that make up the first firm order that DB awarded in 2019 to Talgo after a highly competitive process.
The acceptance comes just a month after the trains received approval from the European and German railway agencies (ERA and EBA, respectively), and while work is being done to obtain authorisation for Austria, the Netherlands and the Basel station in Switzerland. At the same time, work is being done to certify the BR 105 series locomotives and the cab-car capability, both vehicles also developed and manufactured entirely by Talgo.
The ICE L (InterCity Express – Low Floor) offer full platform-level access along their entire length and comply with the country’s strict accessibility regulations. They will be presented at a ceremony in Berlin, on October 17.
They are part of the Talgo 230 technology platform for Intercity (long-distance) trains, which Talgo is also supplying to the Danish operator DSB (commercial name EuroCity, 16 units) and global operator based in Germany Flix: 65 units, with 30 already firmly ordered.
