Hitachi Rail to Deliver New Passenger Information System for Lisbon Metro
Hitachi Rail will deliver its state-of-the-art APIS (Advanced Passenger Information System) solution, already in use at Metro do Porto and Infraestruturas de Portugal.
Hitachi Rail has been awarded a contract to deliver its cutting-edge APIS solution for Lisbon Metro, enabling real-time traffic information broadcasts and supporting a wide range of multimedia formats. This scalable and modular system will empower Lisbon Metro to advance the digitisation of information across its entire network, including rolling stock and surface-level data.
This contract represents the revival of a partnership between Hitachi Rail and Lisbon Metro. It also solidifies Hitachi Rail’s homegrown APIS solution, which will now be operational across Portugal's three main rail transport infrastructures: Lisbon Metro, Porto Metro, and Infraestruturas de Portugal.
The agreement strongly aligns with Hitachi Rail's broader mission to enhance connectivity, streamline journeys, and promote sustainable transport for passengers, customers, and communities alike.
João Araújo, President of the Board of Directors at Hitachi Rail GTS Portugal, said:
“This contract is a testament to the quality and functionality of Hitachi Rail’s APIS product. We are thrilled to welcome Lisbon Metro back as a customer and look forward to showcasing our capabilities while fostering a stronger relationship.”
Maria Helena Campos, Acting Chairwoman of Metropolitano de Lisboa, highlights: "This is an important milestone in our commitment to innovation and customer service improvement, contributing to a more accessible, efficient, and future-ready public transport system. With this new system, Lisbon Metro customers will have access to relevant real-time travel information, enabling greater efficiency in their journeys and better integration with other modes of transport. We are confident that this new service, resulting from the signed contract, will further strengthen the quality of the service we provide daily to the Lisbon Metropolitan area."
