ÖBB RCG launches new product TransFLEX for more flexibility

With TransFLEX, RCG is expanding its wide range of TransFER connections and individual solutions. "Those who choose TransFLEX have even more flexibility in terms of timing, quantity and relation. This enables uncomplicated ad-hoc or spot transports as well as multimodal solutions including first and last mile trucking and value-added services," emphasizes Christoph Grasl, Board Member of RCG, adding: "As the sustainable logistical backbone of the European economy, we are thus responding to our customers' requests to expand our product portfolio."
From pilot project to success
In September 2022, RCG launched the pilot project in Germany with two locomotives. The aim was to establish a flexible, ad hoc solution in a volatile market, alongside the regular TransFER connections with a fixed timetable. In the meantime, the number of locomotives has grown from two to 15 – a complete success. In 2023 alone, this amounted to around 2,300 TransFLEX connections, 2.45 million tonnes transported and 1.28 million kilometres traveled by rail. The block trains operate primarily within Germany, but also travel across borders to Austria. TransFLEX has established itself as the ideal solution, particularly for customers in the chemical and mineral oil industries – especially if speed is of the essence. In future, however, the service may also be extended to other industries.
Locomotive christening ceremony with customers and partners
The success and official launch of TransFLEX was duly celebrated together with the partners MEV and Alpha Trains. A specially branded locomotive was christened at Cologne Central Station to mark the product launch. In addition to numerous customers, partners and the press, Rail Cargo Group Board Member Christoph Grasl, Rail Cargo Logistics - Germany Managing Director Cenk Seringölge and MEV CEO Thorsten Dieter were also present.
