Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has supplied the railway signalling systems for the extension of the Yellow Line of Metro do Porto, which has just been inaugurated in the city of Oporto. Alstom has equipped the new line extension with the same signalling system already in service on the network, including a state-of-the-art interlocking which allows real-time monitoring of vehicles. The engineering component, as well as the installation and commissioning of the system are managed at Alstom's facilities in Maia, Porto.

The expansion of the Yellow Line of the Metro do Porto extends from Santo Ovídio to Vila d'Este, in the south of Oporto, adding three new stations, one of which is underground. The new route, with 3.1 km, includes five hundred meters of viaduct and a tunnel one kilometre long.

"Alstom and Metro do Porto maintain a close and long-term partnership, with the purpose of improving the mobility and comfort of passengers in the city of Oporto. From our engineering facilities in Maia, we develop and maintain signalling projects and digital mobility technologies for the Portuguese and international markets, and the inauguration of the expansion of the Yellow Line is further proof of our commitment to promoting sustainable mobility in Portugal," said David Torres, Managing Director of Alstom Portugal.

Metro do Porto is the light rail system of the city of Oporto, Portugal, covering approximately 78 km of track and six lines, and accommodating about 70 million passengers per year. Alstom has supplied 102 trains to this network, which are currently in service, as well as ATP (Automatic Train Protection) track and onboard signalling systems for the entire network.

Alstom is a global leader in the passenger transport market, with more than 30 years of experience in urban signalling systems and more than 190 equipped metro lines in more than 32 countries.

Alstom has been present in Portugal for more than 30 years and, currently, two out of every three trains that run in this country are manufactured by Alstom or with Alstom technology, including high-speed, regional, metro and electric trains. In the digital sphere, more than 1,500 km of the Portuguese rail network and more than 500 on-board units are managed by Alstom's ATP system, a signalling solution developed specifically for the Portuguese market. In terms of urban mobility, Alstom supplied the signalling system for Metro do Porto and manufactured the first 102 trains currently in operation on this network. Alstom also supplies the ATP system installed on board the 18 trains recently acquired by this operator.
