Hitachi Rail receives clearance from UK anti-trust authority for acquisition of Thales' Ground Transportation Systems
Hitachi Rail working with the European Commission to achieve final anti-trust clearance.
Hitachi Rail has received clearance from the UK's anti-trust authority, the Competition and Markets Authority, for its acquisition of Thales' Ground Transportation Systems (GTS) business.
Hitachi Rail and Thales have been progressing towards completing the €1,660 million deal, and have now secured the regulatory approvals in 12 of the 13 jurisdictions where merger clearance is required.
Responding to points raised by both the European Commission and the CMA, Hitachi Rail has worked closely with the relevant parties to develop mitigations. Having recently refiled with the European Commission (14 September 2023), Hitachi Rail anticipates a final anti-trust decision on its proposed acquisition by early November.
Commenting on achieving clearance from the CMA, a Hitachi Rail spokesperson, said: "Having gained clearance from the CMA, we are now focused on achieving the final anti-trust clearance from the European Commission.
"We believe strongly in the competitive benefits of the deal to acquire Thales' Ground Transportation Systems, which will deliver value for customers in the rail signalling and mobility sectors in Europe and around the world."
