NEW ALSTOM TRAMS ENTER COMMERCIAL SERVICE ON LINES B & C OF THE ANGERS LOIRE MÉTROPOLE NETWORK
The new trams offer reliable, comfortable and modern transport to the inhabitants of the Angers metropolis.
Alstom's Citadis X05 tram has entered commercial service on the new B & C lines of the Angers Loire Métropole Tramway. The new Line B leaves from Belle-Beille station and crosses Maine on the Pont des Arts-et-Métiers before continuing towards Monplaisir via the boulevards Ayrault and Carnot. Line C follows the route of Line B to Place Molière; it then takes rue de la Roë and boulevard Foch and continues to La Roseraie, passing in front of Angers station.
For lines B & C, Alstom has supplied 20 Citadis X05 type trains, 33 meters long and able to carry up to 217 passengers. These 20 additional trams come on top of the 17 Citadis XO2 trams that entered commercial service in June 2011 on the Angers Loire Métropole network.
The delivery of trams for Lines B & C started in April 2022 and was completed in May 2023.

A modern, accessible and sustainable tramway
With a length of 33 meters, and equipped with 6 double doors per side, the Citadis tramway in Angers can carry up to 217 passengers. The integral low floor and the double doors facilitate accessibility and the exchange of passengers in the station. Everything is designed for a pleasant travel experience: large bay windows covering 40% of the tramway, LED lighting with diffusers to homogenize the light source, the latest generation information system, large seats, air conditioning, and video surveillance system.
These new-generation Citadis X05 trams incorporate standardized, proven and more accessible components, providing residents of the Angers metropolis with reliable and easily available equipment. This Citadis tram, which is particularly energy efficient, is more than 99% reusable. It is equipped with an APS underfloor power supply and is fully interoperable with existing trainsets from a previous generation.
A Made in France tramway
Eight of Alstom's seventeen sites in France were involved in the design and manufacture of the Angers Loire Métropole tramway:
- La Rochelle (design and assembly of trams)
- Ornans (engines)
- Le Creusot (bogies)
- Valenciennes (interior fittings, tools, spare parts and training)
- Aix-en-Provence (tachymetry system)
- Saint-Ouen (aesthetic design)
- Vitrolles (APS underfloor supply system)
- Villeurbanne (on-board electronic systems)
The Angers tramway is based on Alstom's range of Citadis tramways and thus benefits from the feedback from more than 3,000 trams already ordered in 70 cities and 20 countries around the world. Citadis trams have already traveled more than 1 billion kilometers and transported 10 billion passengers since the commissioning of the first tram in 2000.
