The company THEMA, formed by Atm and Egis (51% and 49%, respectively), is the corporate entity entrusted with the contract by Hellenic Metro under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, for the management and maintenance of the new driverless line in Thessaloniki, which will be inaugurated in 2024.

The Italian-French group has won a contract lasting 11 years for a total economic value of 250 million euros, proving itself a player with great competitive capacity in the international arena, able to compete with other leading European companies.

The new metro is now the most modern public work in the Hellenic Republic and the only driverless line built, serving the second largest Greek city by population, with over one million inhabitants. With an extension of almost 20 kilometres, it will become the main hub for internal city travel, also strategic for the connections with the rest of the country.

The first line (red-coloured) will cross the entire city on the east-west axis with 13 stops from the Nea Elvetia terminus to the Thessaloniki railway station terminus, an important interchange node with the railway network.

A further extension is planned with another 5 stations to connect the 25 Martiou stop with the south-eastern area of the city, ending at the Mirka station (extension of Kalamaria blue line).

Equipped with sophisticated control and maintenance systems, the metro provides daily service from 5.30 am to 0.30 am (on Fridays and Saturdays the line may be open until 2 am) with 18 trains in the first phase, which will be increased to 33 to ensure service with the Kalamaria extension.

The project is completed by the train depot and the hi-tech control and management operations room located in the Pylaia area.
