With R6 line commissioning (Holsterbro-Esbjerg/Herning-Skjern), Thales has now completed more than 50% of the West Denmark ETCS total renewal

On June 17, the line Holsterbro-Esbjerg and Herning-Skjern (R6) has been renewed with the latest Thales ETCS Level 2 system and connected to the new signalling system in operation since 2018.

The total west Denmark renewed with ETCS is now 750 kms and the remaining projects lines are progressing at high pace.

The line migration has been coupled with a full system upgrade, including a major enhancement for all the Radio Block Centers, and to also dramatically improved the safety of level crossings on the line Thisted – Struer.

Innovative strategies played a crucial role as this 160km-line was finally installed, tested and commissioned within only 5 weeks to minimize impact on passengers It is also both a technical and execution achievement considering that R6 boasts the high number of 78 crossings.Through effective collaboration and planning, the Thales project team managed to secure the commissioning date, as scheduled in 2020.
