CAF WINS CONTRACTS IN THE CITIES OF GRANADA AND MILAN

The CAF Group has secured two new sustainable urban transport contracts. The first of these sees Metro de Granada renewing trust in CAF once more to supply 8 more units which will be added to those already supplied, whilst the other involves AT Milano increasing its fleet of Solaris buses with 75 new electric units.

These two contracts amount to a value of over €80 million.

CAF to supply eight new trains for Granada Metro

Metro de Granada has singled out CAF to supply 8 new units for the city's network, which will be added to the 15 previously-delivered units which are currently in service.

The new units will be similar to those already supplied by CAF, providing places for 221 passengers and a maximum running speed of 70 km/h. The delivery time established in the contract is 22 months units from the contract signing, providing a response to the growth in metro passenger demand, whilst also significantly improving service quality.

This extension of the train fleet is intended to significantly increase transport capacity by increasing the number of seats available, as well as train frequency at stations. It will also make it possible to run double-train consists during peak demand times and for special, high-intensity services. This rolling stock extension will allow the company to cover planned future expansions of the Granada Metro network.

Milan to receive an additional 75 electric Solaris buses

The Italian operator ATM Milano has relied on the CAF Group for a new electric bus order as part of the framework agreement for the supply of up to 250 electric buses entered into in mid-2019. This marks one of the biggest electric vehicle contracts Solaris has secured to date.

This contract award is testament to the Italian operator’s goal to dispense with the use of all diesel buses in the city by the year 2030. Accordingly, this new order for 75 new units, which will be added to the 140 buses already supplied to AT Milano, bears out Solaris' commitment to creating more sustainable transport.

These are Urbino 12 model buses, scheduled for delivery during the second half of 2022. They will feature reduced noise emission and vibrations, and, most important, zero emissions. This will contribute to improve the quality of life of the residents of the transalpine city.

It should be pointed out that Solaris' collaboration with the Milanese operator has played an important role over recent years, dating back to 2014, with Solaris having supplied more than 300 vehicles to Milan since then - including almost 200 trolleybuses and electric buses. This new order also confirms Solaris' leadership in the electromobility sector in Italy, where more than half of the electric buses currently operating in Italian cities are CAF Group-supplied vehicles.
