VolkerRail to speak at RTM365: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Event
VolkerRail’s major projects director, Stuart Birch, is to take part in a digital webinar, on Wednesday 16 June, to discuss equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within the rail industry and the steps we still need to take to make the sector a more inclusive environment.
The event, hosted by the Rail Technology Magazine (RTM), will bring together industry leaders to share their knowledge on how to start attracting a diverse workforce, how driving cultural change within your organisation can help develop and retain new skills, the investment in creating a rail network accessible for all, and how to ensure business meets ED&I standards- in procurement to win new business.
VolkerRail is taking part in a leaders’ debate, at 10am on Wednesday 16 June, and will discuss the benefits and advice on recruiting a diverse workforce, alongside Adeline Ginn MBE, the founder of Women in Rail, and Loraine Martins OBE FRSA, director of diversity and inclusion, HR at Network Rail.
VolkerRail will also be present in the event’s Digital Marketplace hub, where attendees can come and view what we do, as well as book meetings with some of our experienced professionals. The hub will be live between 09:15 until 15:40, if you wish to book a slot to discuss any key topics with us.
Commenting, Stuart Birch said: “VolkerRail understands the importance of a diverse workforce and the urgency needed within the industry to promote rail careers to the next generation.
“We are a key sponsor for the Routes into Rail campaign, which hosts a website highlighting the wide range of exciting opportunities within rail; we have signed a commitment to a new EDI Charter to champion EDI in the UK railway industry; and we sponsored RTM’s 2019 survey to assess if the sector is doing enough to attract young people into the rail industry. However, we still continue to look for further opportunities to help promote the sector and showcase the huge steps it has taken to become more inclusive.”
