Vientiane-Luang Prabang Section of China-Laos Railway Completed
On December 29, 2020, the Vientiane-Luang Prabang Section of China-Laos Railway was completed. Constructed by China Railway No.2 Engineering Group, the project lays a solid foundation for completing the whole China-Laos Railway before May 2021 and putting the whole line into service by December 2021.
Since the track laying began on March 27, 2020, 240 kilometers of the main track have been laid from Vientiane to Luang Prabang, making up 57 percent of the total length of the Laos section of the railway. At present, the main parts of the underground tunnels, bridges, and subgrades have been basically completed, and all the station buildings along the line have been capped.
With the completion and operation of the China-Laos Railway, the journey time from Kunming, China, to Vientiane, Laos, is expected to be shortened to less than 12 hours. (By China Railway No.2 Engineering Group, Zang Heng, and Duan Yunchuan)
