CR5 Completes Tunneling of Its Section of the Anding Tunnel on the China-Laos Railway

China Railway No.5 Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (CR5) completed the tunneling of the 8,822-meter section under its responsibility of the Anding Tunnel, the longest tunnel along the China-Laos Railway that links Kunming and Vientiane.

The tunnel, with a total length of 17,476 meters, is located in the collision zone between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate, and runs through several geological faults and geosynclines.

The area features multiple unfavorable geological conditions including landslides, high crustal stress, harmful gases, water gushing, karst, and bedding lateral pressure, making the tunnel the hardest part of the construction project of the Yuxi-Mohan section of the China-Laos Railway. CR5 is responsible for construction of the tunnel’s portal.
