New Executive Vice President Service at Stadler

Jürg Gygax, Executive Vice President Service and member of Stadler’s Group Executive Board, has decided toretire as of 31 March 2021 and to hand over his operational responsibility after more than three decades in top positions in the Swiss industry

At Stadler, he has led the Division Service, which he has been responsibleforsince 2013, to significant growth.He will continue to work for Stadler in a consulting role.Daniel Baer ishis successor, and Benjamin Niederhauser will become Daniel Baer’s deputy.

Jürg Gygax joined Stadler in early2005 as a member of the Group Executive Board.In 2013, he became responsible for the Division Service, which counts today approximately 1,300 employees in more than 19 countries. After more than 15 years at Stadler, Jürgen Gygax has decided to leave his position, to withdraw from the operational responsibility and to retire as of the end of March of 2021. In order to enable a smooth generation change, he will continue to support Stadler after his retirement in a consulting role.

Shaping Swiss technology companies over decades in management positions
Before his time at Stadler, Jürg Gygax worked from as the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of MOWAG, a Kreuzlingen-based manufacturer of special vehicles, and as the CEO of Saurer Sticksysteme in Arbon, Switzerland. He had also held various positions at Rieter AG. Gygax graduated as an engineer. Furthermore, he completed the Executive Management Program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, US, and the Business Management program at SKU in Zurich, Switzerland.

Experienced successor: Daniel Baer
Daniel Baer started to work at Stadler in 2004 and will succeed Jürg Gygax as Executive Vice President Service and member of the Group Executive Board. Currently, he is a member of the executive board of Stadler Service AG. Before his current function, he has held different specialist and management positions within the Division Service. He had also held positions at ABB and Huber+Suhner Daniel Baer holds a master’s degree in engineering and management from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences and a degree in engineering from the ABB Technikerschule based in Baden, Germany. Before decidingto study atuniversity, he successfully completed an apprenticeship as an electrical fitter. The current Head of Stadler’s Service Region Middle, Benjamin Niederhauser, was appointed as as Daniel Baer's deputy.

Strong growth in service –Stadler as a solution provider
Thanks to its comprehensive range of services, Stadler is a solution provider for rail transport. Customers can not only buy trains and locomotives from Stadler, but they can also profit from various services such as full service, modernizations and overhauls carried out in more than 45 locations in 19 countries. The Division Service, providing these services and being led by Jürg Gygax until the end of March 2021, is growing strongly. The fleet maintained by Stadler’s Division Service is able to cover a mileage of over 220 million kilometres each year.
