Nomad-Alstom Consortium Win Multi Million-Pound On-Board Passenger WiFi Contract

Alstom 4

Nomad Digital, the world’s leading provider of passenger and fleet connectivity solutions to the railway industry, will supply, design and deliver in cooperation with DSB a complete on-board Passenger WiFi solution and provide maintenance and operation services to the system.

The contract is a 6-year agreement which was awarded in September 2018. The delivery program is already well underway with the target of having the entire fleet scope of more than 250 trains modernised by end of 2019.

Denmark has a political ambition to increase the number of passenger’s on-board trains. To do this, services need to be improved, expanded and allow passengers stable access to the internet whilst travelling. Nomad will provide a multi-mobile network operating WiFi solution, meaning passenger’s and train staff will be more connected than ever before.

The solution will offer passengers and staff easy access to the available internet capacity and DSB will achieve an affordable, cost effective WiFi solution that will facilitate their vision of a functional workplace onboard DSB trains.

A functional workplace for DSB passengers means a free of charge WiFi solution that offers a high-speed connection enabling use of email and internet browsing, the same as passengers might get at home or in the office.

The on-board passenger WiFi solution is built on Nomad’s latest router technology platform, the R5001 and using the new Nomad Connect software, creating cutting-edge technology for a simple and smart user experience.

Jürgen Müller, Executive Vice President, Strategy and Rolling Stock at DSB said:

DSB is looking forward to offering our customers a new improved free and easy access to the internet in our regional and intercity fleet. We have chosen an end-to-end solution from Nomad Digital leaving Nomad Digital with the responsibility to constantly advice DSB on how the customers are secured on a highly stable and intelligent WiFi service.

Reece Donovan, Nomad’s CEO, said:

We’re really looking forward to being able to roll this out across the DSB fleets over the next six years. Our vision at Nomad is ‘connecting everything’ with the aim to deliver an intelligent journey for everyone. Our WiFi and internet solutions are a key part of this and will achieve maximum passenger experience for DSB.

Emmanuel Henry, Managing Director of Alstom Denmark, said:

Alstom is proud to serve DSB’s customer vision by providing high quality connectivity services to passengers through deployment of state-of-the-art solutions provided by the Nomad-Alstom consortium.
