The rail technology company will install its communications-based train control (CBTC) technology Urbalis 400 at Mumbai Metro lines 2A, 2B and 7, along with Pune Metro lines 1 and 2.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) awarded the Mumbai Metro contract, which requires Alstom to supply the CBTC signalling system along with modern telecommunication systems for the three elevated lines.

Alstom said that the scope of the signalling contract includes design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of Urbalis 400, as well as the supply and commissioning of on-board equipment for 63 trains.

“Our cutting-edge technologies will help enhance the quality of life of the citizens of both Mumbai and Pune.”

Additionally, the telecommunications contract includes public address systems, passenger information display systems, fibre optic transmission systems, CCTV and access control systems.Maha Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) awarded the Pune Metro contract to Alstom, under which the French firm will supply Urbalis 400 for Corridors 1 and 2 to control 31 trains on the 32km-long route, enabling trains to run more frequently and at higher speeds.

Urbalis 400, which is currently being used in more than 30 cities across the globe, helps urban train operators to maximise their performance and capacity while requiring standard interlocking for their operational needs.

The system, which has been designed for heavy ridership metros, provides a significant range of functions aimed at improving headway and average speed performance.

Alstom India & South Asia managing director Alain Spohr said: “We are proud to have been selected by our customers for these prestigious projects. Our cutting-edge technologies will help enhance the quality of life of the citizens of both Mumbai and Pune and will contribute to the overall development of the cities.

“We are also proud to be a key partner, via these projects, in the growth of sustainable transportation in the region.”
