Stadler to modernise safety systems for Chemins de fer du Jura

On 8 January 2025, Stadler Signalling and Chemins de fer du Jura (CJ) signed a contract to renew the signalling systems at Tavannes station and Orange depot in the Bernese Jura.

In order to improve services and cater for the growing number of passengers, Chemins de fer du Jura (CJ), the federal government and the cantons, are investing several million francs each year to modernise the CJ rail network, including tracks and overhead lines. The main focus is to install electronic signal boxes and renew train control systems. This will guarantee a punctual and safe railway at all times and form the basis of further developments on the CJ's route.

Proven technology
As a result of the upgrade, passengers will in future reach their destination safely, more punctually, more comfortably, and faster. This will be achieved thanks to the use of the latest generation of electronic interlockings, which will be installed at Tavannes station and Orange depot by 2027.

On 8 January 2025, CJ and Stadler Signalling, based in Wallisellen (ZH), signed an implementation contract worth around CHF 4.3 million. The modernisation of the signalling systems is part of the conversion work required to ensure that the stations comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (BehiG).

In July 2019, the CJ commissioned Stadler to overhaul the safety systems at Tramelan station. Completion of the work on the three stations will mean that half of the safety systems on the Tavannes-Le Noirmont line will have been modernised.

The Stadler EUROLOCKING safety systems scheduled to be installed at Tavannes station, Orange station and at Tramelan station are based on proven technology, as Stadler has already upgraded the Bellevue, Saignelégier, Alle, Alle Centre, Vendlincourt and Bonfol stations on the CJ network.
