Alstom to deliver 13 Traxx locomotives to CLIP Intermodal

Locomotives are designed to operate from Poland to France through six countries: France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Germany and Poland.

Alstom, global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, and CLIP Intermodal, a company specialised in intermodal transport, belonging to Clip Group, have announced the signing of contracts in the first quarter of 2024 for the total supply of 13 third-generation Traxx multi-system locomotives. The Traxx locomotives will be homologated for the European corridor, including France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Austria and Poland. The Alstom site in Kassel, Germany, will be responsible for the production of the units, while the locomotive bodies will be manufactured at the Alstom facility in Wrocław, Poland.

As our terminal has eight reloading tracks, with an annual capacity of over 1 million TEU, and our own fleet accounts to 500 intermodal wagons, it has been natural for us to invest in our own locomotives. I am convinced that Traxx locomotives will strengthen the position of CLIP Intermodal, contributing to the further development of sustainable and low-emission European transport corridors. We focus on intermodal transport as it has huge potential, especially in the context of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The third generation Traxx multi-system locomotives are characterised by high operational efficiency, reliability, energy efficiency and accessible service. They are designed to handle heavier loads compared to other locomotives in the same class. Units ordered by Clip Group can reach a top speed of 160 km per hour and will be equipped with the leading signalling system Onvia (formerly known as Atlas), Alstom’s onboard solution for the European Train Control System (ETCS). This system offers the most extensive coverage across various countries and lines, both in ETCS as well as for legacy system operation. Alstom is the leading locomotive maintainer, and maintains more than 2,450 locomotives around the world, including almost 600 Traxx locomotives.

Alstom’s Traxx electric mainline locomotives offer a flexible design based on a strong, modular platform approach compatible with many applications (single or multi-country freight and passenger transport) and available in various configurations (AC, DC and multi-system). This product delivers increased operational performance and reliability with higher energy efficiency and extended maintenance intervals to improve its availability. One of the most interesting features is the possibility of equipping the locomotive with the ‘Last Mile’ functionality. This allows new operating concepts, such as seamless continuation from line haul traction into non-electrified lines, often used to access ports, industrial areas, or terminals. Those locomotives have been approved in 20 countries, covering a total annual distance of more than 300 million kilometres. Since 2000, over 5,700 locomotives, produced by Alstom, have started operation and have been used in many European countries, as well as in Asia, North America and Africa.
