BLS RUNS DIRECTLY FROM BERN TO DOMODOSSOLA
BLS will also use the new MIKA trains between Brig and Domodossola. This means that the RegioExpress will once again travel directly from Bern to Italy.
The new MIKA trains are now also approved for the Italian route. From Sunday, the BLS RegioExpress trains will run directly from Bern to Italy. This means that travellers between Brig and Domodossola benefit from more comfort. In addition to panoramic windows and a bistro zone, there are new power sockets at all seats and more space overall than on the trains that run on this route today.
The trains now also stop in Preglia all day. This not only improves the timetable offering for commuters. The stop also offers leisure travellers new opportunities for hikes and excursions in the Ossola region.
Delay due to failed framework agreement with the EU
BLS wanted to put the MIKA trains into operation on the Bern – Domodossola route a year ago. However, due to the failed framework agreement between Switzerland and the EU, the trains had to go through a longer process than originally planned for approval on the Italian route. Due to the delay, the new trains initially only ran between Bern and Brig. Travellers had to change to older NINA trains in Brig.
