Alstom is a partner of the “Katowice – A City of Professionals” program
Participation in the program will allow students to learn new perspectives of industry and technical education.
Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has joined the “Katowice – A City of Professionals” program. In the 2023/2024 school year, students of technical and vocational schools in Katowice will have the opportunity to visit Alstom railway facilities in Katowice and Chorzów. The knowledge acquired in this way will allow them to better manage their further education and plan the development of the competencies which are most sought after in the current labor market.
The key aim of the “Katowice – A City of Professionals” is to adapt the offer of schools providing vocational education to the needs of the local labor market. The program promotes Katowice’s industrial and technical education through cooperation with employers operating in the City, as well as by presenting new professional prospects and increasing social awareness in this field, while also strengthening the position of Katowice as the economic center of the region.
In the Silesian region alone, Alstom employs almost 3,000 people and constantly recruits for new specialist positions to its sites in Katowice, Chorzow and Swietochlowice. The facility in Katowice is one of the largest producers of railway traffic control systems and equipment across Europe. The specialists who work there, including highly qualified engineers, electronics and electromechanics, develop innovative technologies that ensure the maximum safety and capacity of railway traffic. The facility in Chorzów specializes in the design and production of rolling stock, including metro and regional trains. The trains produced there are used all over the world – in the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and France. The plant offers the opportunity to develop competencies that are highly valued in the market, including those of qualified welders, electricians and electromechanics.
“I am excited that – thanks to our participation in the ‘Katowice – A City of Professionals’ program – we will be able to instill a passion for the railway industry among young people. Modern railways are driven by innovations which are crucial to a sustainable growth of both global economies and local communities. Many of these innovations are created here, in Katowice and Chorzów, thanks to the extraordinary and constantly developed talents of our team members. The rolling stock and signaling systems manufactured in our plants are used in almost every part of the world, which gives our employees practically unlimited development opportunities. Therefore, I believe that many students who visit our plants will connect their future careers with Alstom and the railway industry,” declared Sławomir Cyza, President of the Management Board of Alstom Polska.
“Each year the program attracts more interesting companies from Katowice. Alstom joining the program is great news for students of our city’s schools, who will have the opportunity to learn about production and engineering.
