Egis acquires Italrom, a construction engineering company operating in Romania and Poland

Egis is a major international construction engineering and mobility services group with a constant presence in Romania since 1996.

Egis acquires Italrom, a construction engineering company operating in Romania and Poland

On the local market, Egis is a strong player in design, engineering and project management services, with several strategically important infrastructure projects ongoing. After successful collaboration on a number of projects with Italrom, a Romanian-based engineering company, Egis is now completing the acquisition of Italrom.

Italrom, a Romanian-based company that provides structural engineering, underground and tunnelling engineering, geotechnical works and operating in the field of large infrastructural and civils works, has around 40 staff, mainly in Bucharest and Poland, with experience across a wide range of specialities. Italrom services are mainly in technical, detail and built design (check, analysis, drawings and management), as well as technical assistance, feasibility studies and work supervision, servicing both the public and private sectors, in road and rail markets in Romania and Poland. Italrom’s impressive portfolio of experience includes important roles on Braila bridge, lines M4 & M5 of the Bucharest metro, rail design works for Craiova-Caransebes, Curtici-Simeria and Predeal-Brasov in Romania and also an important tunnel section (to be constructed with a 15 metre diameter tunnel boring machine) of the Rzeszow - Babica S-19 express road in Poland.

The acquisition of Italrom is an investment that strengthens Egis’ presence in Romania and in Poland. After a very strong year of growth for Egis in the region, this acquisition is a significant step forward, allowing Egis to reinforce its design services and expand its services and capabilities with both public and private sector clients in Romania, Poland and elsewhere in Europe. In particular the Italrom team will help Egis’ expand its local teams to address recent growth but will also enable expansion in the future rail and metro design markets.

By merging the Italrom’s expertise with Egis in Romania, is expected a quick development of the Egis local team by the access of the company to competitive engineers. Through this acquisition, Egis in Romania is also becoming an established player in the railway market, expanding its railway design projects and entering metro market, a big future market in Romania and Poland as well.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close towards early 2023.

"The acquisition of Italrom is a major milestone for our activity in Central and Eastern Europe and especially in Romania where Italrom’s capabilities will strongly reinforce our local team in design, technical assistance and supervision expertise. Working together with Italrom in several projects, we saw their complementary strengths - an efficient civil structural engineering design office operating contracts across several infrastructure domains in which Egis is looking to grow. The design teams of Egis and Italrom will be merged together to create a strong and multi-disciplinary design office with a high level of experience and capability. As this region has one of the highest growth rates in Europe at the moment, it will become an ever more important base for Egis' global growth and we’re looking forward to realising the potential that this important investment offers."

" Italrom is excited to become part of Egis, one of the most important engineering players on both national and international engineering market. Italrom has achieved and surpassed the ambitious goals of its origins, becoming a consolidated presence in the market of design and consulting firms operating in the field of large infrastructure and civilian works. The acquisition is a natural and welcome next step that will allow us to take our skills to the next level and into a new league. Our management team and staff are looking forward to becoming part of the Egis team and especially all the professional development opportunities this transaction presents."
