New Metro solutions

Alstom will have one of the key attractions for visitors to this edition of Rail Live, with a 1:1 scale model of the future trains for Barcelona Metro.

These new trains, currently being manufactured at Alstom’s industrial centre in Santa Perpètua, Barcelona, incorporate the latest advances in comfort, efficiency and sustainability, with the highest level of recyclability (96.1%), low energy consumption, and commitment to the strictest regulations in the use of materials. In addition, these trains are reconfigurable during their service life to alternate between the cabin version and the automatic version (GOA4), which enables driverless operation. Its design has also taken into account the maximum requirements and advances to ensure the best comfort on board, connectivity and universal accessibility, for which we have collaborated with the Fundación ONCE.

Leader in the metro market worldwide, Alstom has two metro train platforms (MetropolisTM and MoviaTM) to satisfy the needs of different customers and operators. With over 12,000 vehicles in circulation in 40 different countries, more than 10 billion passengers are travelling every year on one of the metro systems manufactured by the Alstom Group worldwide.

Innovation-based growth strategy

In response to the unprecedented acceleration of sustainable mobility needs worldwide, Alstom presented its strategic plan ‘Alstom in Motion 2025’ last July. In line with this strategy to become the world leader in innovation for sustainable and smart mobility, the company will significantly increase its investment in R&D in the coming years to 550-600 million euro per year.

Moreover, thanks to its new dimension, following the integration of Bombardier Transportation, the Alstom Group has the most comprehensive portfolio of solutions in the industry, including all types of rolling stock (from trams to very high-speed trains), spare parts, maintenance and operation services, as well as a full range of signalling solutions and digital mobility technologies.
