CargoBeamer adds Calais – Domodossola lane

The lane between Calais and Domodossola serves as the latest addition to the intermodal route network of CargoBeamer. Starting off on October 4th, trains will circle on four roundtrips per week between the locations in France and Italy. From December, the frequency will increase to six weekly trips in each direction, meaning that at least one train will run on the newly added route every day.

CargoBeamer adds Calais – Domodossola lane

Like on all CargoBeamer lanes, both cranable and non-cranable semi-trailers as well as containers, hazardous goods, P400, frigo and bulk trailers can be transported in a climate-friendly manner by rail. Calais – Domodossola serves as the third lane the German logistics service provider has added to its route network since the beginning of the year.

Second destination for terminal in Calais

In June, CargoBeamer opened the first terminal relying entirely on the company's own technology in Calais. Here, semi-trailers are loaded horizontally and in parallel on and off special railcars, which means that an entire intermodal train can be handled fully automatically within 20 minutes. In addition to the domestic French route between Calais and Perpignan, which is being operated since July, the connection to Domodossola joins as the first international lane in the terminal’s portfolio.

Matthias Schadler, Managing Director of CargoBeamer intermodal operations GmbH, explains: "We at CargoBeamer are delighted to offer our customers yet another route between two highly attractive logistics locations. Regarding the recently opened terminal in Calais, we are continuously working on expanding the number of intermodal connections to various logistics hubs in Europe. The addition of a route to Domodossola has played a firm role in our planning since the very beginning. Additionally, we will continue to extend our route and terminal network significantly in the coming years to execute the modal shift and transport semi-trailers environmentally friendly on CargoBeamer trains."
