Alstom appoints Leopoldo Maestu new president and CEO in Spain
Coinciding with the start of the new fiscal year 2020/2021, Alstom has appointed Leopoldo Maestu new President and CEO of Alstom in Spain and Portugal, and a member of the Management Committee of Alstom Europe.
Coinciding with the start of the new fiscal year 2020/2021, Alstom has appointed Leopoldo Maestu new President and CEO of Alstom in Spain and Portugal, and a member of the Management Committee of Alstom Europe.
At the same time, Antonio Moreno, president and CEO of Alstom Spain since 2010, will be the person in charge of the Alstom cluster in Central Europe. From this new responsibility, Antonio Moreno will direct the Group's activities in 18 countries. He will also remain on the Alstom Europe Management Committee.
Antonio Moreno and Leopoldo Maestu will continue to work closely together to ensure an adequate transfer of powers and functions. In this sense, a transition plan has been designed, which will be completed during this quarter.
With this appointment, Alstom once again opts for a Spanish manager, with railway roots and a great expert in the sector, to lead the Group in our country. This choice is part of Alstom's strategy to continue investing in the Spanish railway sector and continue to contribute its technology, capacity for innovation and industrial growth.
In recent years, Alstom has continued to bet on industrial and technological development in Spain with significant investments, such as the acquisition of the industrial assets of the Santa Perpetua factory (the only one in Spain with the capacity to manufacture all kinds of trains), the development of a new industrial center specialized in railway components in Getafe or the creation in Madrid of an Innovation center with global competences in digital mobility. Alstom Spain currently employs more than 2,000 people in 18 work centers, including four R&D centers for railway maintenance units, passenger experience, signaling and digital mobility.
Leopoldo Maestu, who began his career at Alstom with the arrival of the AVE in Spain, has developed his entire professional career in the railway sector, with different managerial responsibilities within the Alstom Group, both nationally and internationally, in the USA. USA, France and Canada. Since 2014 he has been General Director of the Services unit of Alstom Spain and Portugal, and President of the Joint Ventrue IRVIA; and since 2018, also commercial director of Alstom Spain and Portugal.
Leopoldo Maestu is an Industrial Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a Master MBA from the ESCP Business School.
