Eiffage Rail: an unprecedented operation on the Eurotunnel site

This weekend, more than a hundred people were mobilised on an extraordinary maintenance work site at the entrance to the North Tunnel on the French side.

Eiffage Rail: an unprecedented operation on the Eurotunnel site

After 26 years of train traffic since the tracks were opened without any major intervention, Eiffage Rail's teams replaced a 60-metre turnout and almost 180 metres of original rails under the supervision of Eurotunnel's Franco-British technicians.

Traffic on this section under construction was postponed during the work phase on the South Tunnel.

A bit of history: in 1990, teams from SAE, a member of the TML consortium, took part in the digging of the Channel Tunnel officially inaugurated on 6 May 1994 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the then President of the French Republic, François Mitterrand.
