New railway siding strengthens logistics in Galicia

COMSA Corporación, in a joint venture with CIVIS GLOBAL, S.L.U., has completed the works required to bring into service the railway siding of the Salvaterra-As Neves Industrial Logistics Platform (Plisan) in Galicia. The infrastructure is now connected to the national railway network, enabling the operation of the first train and reinforcing the intermodal logistics capacity associated with the Port of Vigo.

Project context
The project was promoted by the Port Authority of Vigo, in coordination with Adif, with the objective of improving rail connectivity for the logistics platform and facilitating freight transport between the port, surrounding industrial areas, and the national rail network. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening logistics infrastructure while improving efficiency and reducing reliance on road transport.

Technical scope of the works
The project included several key interventions required to integrate the siding into the existing railway infrastructure. These works involved the installation of track switches enabling the direct connection to the main line, as well as the integration of signalling and communications systems into the railway control centres.

In addition, adjustments were carried out to the overhead catenary system in order to adapt it to the new track configuration and ensure continuity of the railway electrification infrastructure.

Implementation and operational conditions
The construction works were carried out under demanding operational conditions, within limited work windows and in compliance with strict railway safety standards. Close coordination between construction teams, railway operators, and infrastructure managers was essential to complete the project while maintaining the operational stability of the rail network.

Impact on regional logistics
With the commissioning of the new siding, the Salvaterra-As Neves Industrial Logistics Platform strengthens its role as a strategic logistics hub in Galicia. The direct railway connection enables more efficient freight transport, supports intermodal operations, and contributes to more sustainable logistics for industrial activities in the region.
