Alstom has signed a contract to supply 26 additional double-decker Coradia Max regional trains to the Landesanstalt Schienenfahrzeuge Baden-Württemberg (SFBW). The agreement also covers maintenance and servicing of the vehicles until the end of 2055, bringing the total contract value to approximately €500 million.

The new order forms part of an option agreed in May 2022, when Baden-Württemberg placed a major order for 130 Coradia Max trains, including long-term FlexCare Perform maintenance services. That framework agreement allowed for the procurement of up to 100 additional trains.

Delivery of the newly ordered trains is scheduled to take place between mid and late 2028. Once in service, they will be gradually deployed from December 2026 on regional routes across Baden-Württemberg, operated by DB Regio Baden-Württemberg and Arverio on the Stuttgart–Lake Constance network.

Designed for high-capacity regional transport, the four-car Coradia Max trains combine double-deck control cars with single-deck intermediate cars, offering a total of 380 seats per unit. With a maximum speed of 200 km/h, they are among the fastest regional trains operating in Germany.

Passenger comfort features include air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, charging points for mobile devices, reading lights, lounge areas, family and conference compartments, and spacious multi-purpose areas for bicycles, prams and luggage. The trains are fully barrier-free, providing step-free access from standard platforms and integrated lifts for passengers with reduced mobility.

The vehicles will also be equipped with modern signalling and automation technology as part of the “Digital Hub Stuttgart” project, Germany’s first fully digitised railway hub. Painted in the state’s white-yellow-black bwegt livery, the expanded Coradia Max fleet supports Baden-Württemberg’s strategy to increase rail capacity while advancing energy-efficient and climate-friendly mobility.
