SNCF Réseau awards two-year contract for milling work to Vossloh

SNCF Réseau has awarded Vossloh a two-year firm-period contract, with an option to extend for up to three additional years from 2026, to deliver extensive milling works across France’s national rail network. Averaging 200 km of track to be machined annually, the project represents one of Vossloh’s largest rail and switch maintenance contracts in France to date.

The scope of work covers the entire country, excluding Corsica. In 2026, Vossloh will perform milling services for 11 Infrapôles—SNCF Réseau’s regional infrastructure divisions. As part of the tender, Vossloh proposed a planning concept that maximizes operating time of the milling train, significantly reducing transfer times and increasing overall efficiency.

The collaboration will also emphasize technological innovation. During the bidding phase, both organisations initiated discussions on deploying next-generation machines, digital monitoring tools and advanced technologies to address the rising demands on the French rail network, a key transit corridor within the European transport system.

Vossloh’s milling technology enables complete rail profile machining in a single pass—depending on defect depth and rail condition. The combined milling and integrated grinding process accurately restores the transverse and longitudinal rail profiles, improving ride quality, reducing wear and extending rail service life.
