The co-operation framework agreement is between Pandrol China and the Metal & Chemistry Research Institute (MCRI) of the China Academy of Railway Sciences (CARS). The agreement outlines a collaborative approach to promoting Pandrol’s innovative aluminothermic welding solution i+weld and supporting China Railway’s Auto-ATW (automated thermit welding) requirements.
The signing ceremony, which took place at the 2025 Beijing Modern Railway event, involved Mr Daniel Xiao, Managing Director of Pandrol China and Mr Shao Piyan, Director of MCRI. The event was attended by Pandrol’s Chief Technology Officer Frédérique Coueille, Nicolas Demond Head of Engineering ATW/EQC at Pandrol and senior management from both organisations.
Nicolas Demond, Head of Engineering ATW/EQC at Pandrol, explains:
"This is a really important agreement for Pandrol China and we are looking forward to building important new business relationships within the Chinese railway sector. Innovations like our i+weld solution are just right for the Chinese market and with the technical support and training from our experienced team means rail welds can be completed more quickly and at a higher standard, whilst addressing skills shortages."
At the Beijing Modern Railway event, Pandrol China showcased its PLA-EVO welding system, known as QPS, which received positive feedback for its performance, particularly in colder climates.
Pandrol China also presented its most recent innovations, including Fastclip, SFC base plates, VIPA and Vanguard Track Fastening Systems and the newly introduced SD thread rail fastening system. The SD System generated a high level of interest from consultants and contractors, due to its potential for customisation to meet local standards.
The 2025 Beijing Modern Railway event served as a platform for Pandrol China to reinforce its commitment to innovation, partnership and market leadership. With intelligent equipment and automation shaping the future of rail welding and maintenance, Pandrol China is well positioned to drive progress and deliver value across the global railway industry.
