Traxens to deploy tracking system on CFL Multimodal’s freight wagons

TRAXENS

France-based Traxens has signed an agreement to install its cargo tracking IoT system on CFL Multimodal’s connected freight wagons.

The system will enable the operator to track rail wagons delivering cargo in Europe and China.

The agreement follows the successes of initial trials at the end of last year, where CFL installed Traxens Box devices on flat wagons travelling between European destinations.

Trials were extended to include more than 20 freight wagons travelling to further destinations.

Last month, Traxens’ rail freight telematics technology was tested on wagons travelling to China.

Traxens rail business unit director Florence Delalande said: “As an outcome of our joint pilot project, we are delighted that CFL multimodal decided to extend its use of our bespoke IoT technology in its rail freight operations to China.

“This shows the potential of our technology for all rail and intermodal freight businesses, as the shipping industry shifts towards a digital future.”

Traxens’ solution is designed to offer accurate and timely data about cargo by tracking the wagons.

According to the company, the Traxens Box can be installed on any type of rail wagon in a few minutes at railway terminals or workshops.

CFL multimodal innovation director Marc Valette said: “The technology used by Traxens, enabling the local interconnection of different devices without wiring, opens up new opportunities in train condition and composition monitoring.

“This is a huge opportunity to improve operations and service effectiveness in rail.”

Besides its association with CFL Multimodal, Traxens is engaged with other rail industry stakeholders, including French national railway company SNCF.

The company has delivered the Digital Freight Train system in collaboration with SNCF Logistics to convert conventional wagons into intelligent units.
