Chewing Gum Removal That Works!

They stick to the tarmac and quickly stick to your own shoes: chewing gum that is simply spat out and carelessly disposed of in the environment.

Whilst they are merely a nuisance under your shoes, they are a real problem in other areas. The gum pollutes our waters, in the worst case kills animals and causes high disposal costs. More than 95 per cent of chewing gum consists of plastic, so-called thermoplastics. These are not biodegradable and are also petroleum-based. The abrasion is washed into the sewers by rain – together with microplastics that cannot be filtered out by sewage treatment plants.

In large cities, up to 80 pieces of spit-out rubber currently end up on one square metre of road. Removing this waste costs taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars or euros every year.

Those responsible for maintenance are often forced to spend large sums on ‘extreme litter removal’.

There are cities and municipalities that rely on fines to curb chewing gum pollution. There are cities that rely on chewing gum letterboxes or run campaigns to raise awareness.

Nevertheless, it hardly matters what measures are taken: The sticky and environmentally hazardous chewing gum not only pollutes public areas and can hardly be removed by conventional cleaning methods. But here too, the dirtier a floor is, the greater the inhibition to spit out your own chewing gum.
