Modernisation of the Riedbahn: 180 Ermewa container wagons bring the gravel to the track

DB Fahrwegdienste rents new container wagons for material transport from Wagon keeper Ermewa.

The first corridor modernisation project in Germany will start in July 2024: the Riedbahn, a busy line between Mannheim and Frankfurt, will be completely modernised and therefore closed for several months. The schedule behind this is based on detailed planning of extensive construction work by various construction trades. The availability of rolling stock for the transport of tracks, ballast and other materials plays an important role here.

Ermewa is proud to support this flagship project by leasing a total of 120 Sgnss 60' container wagons and 60 Sgmmnss 40' container wagons to DB Fahrwegdienste GmbH. The last tranche of six wagons was handed over to DB Fahrwegdienste on June 20 in Stolberg. All wagons are brand new and were manufactured in the Tatrawagonka and DuroDakovic workshops. They are equipped with GPS sensors and, like all container wagons in the Ermewa fleet, are fitted with K-blocks.

By leasing wagons to DB Fahrwegdienste for the first time, Ermewa is further expanding its long-standing business relationship with DB AG.

Thomas Nedwed, Head of Logistics at DB Fahrwegdienste GmbH: "We are looking forward to working with ERMEWA. It is important for us to be able to reliably provide the project with good equipment for transporting supplies and materials to and from the construction site with our containers and modern rolling stock.“

Bernhard Hoffmann, Head of Sales DACH and NL: "We are delighted to be involved in the Riedbahn project. With our wagon material, we want to make a reliable contribution to the smooth and speedy general refurbishment of the infrastructure."
