The overground metro will increase by 78 stations after the MCD-3 and MCD-4 launch
For the launch of the prospective diameters — MCD-3 and MCD-4, large-scale works on the infrastructure are being carried out now. After their launch, there will be 138 Moscow Central Diameter stations on the overground metro network.
Nowadays, old stations are being renovated and new ones are being built to improve transport accessibility for residents of the Moscow regions and the capital. Mitkovskaya connecting branch is being reconstructed to connect Kazansky and Leningradsky railway directions and a new section is being built to connect Kievsky and Gorkovsky railway directions so that passengers can build new through routes across the capital. Convenient fares and comfortable hubs will create a single seamless space.
By the end of 2023 — beginning of 2024, the new MCD-3 will include 41 stations, 14 of which will be interchangeable to the metro, the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and other diameters. The MCD-4 will include 37 stations, and after 2025 there will be 39 stations, of which 18 will be interchangeable.
«We continue the development of urban railway transport. In late 2023 - early 2024, we plan to launch the 3rd and 4th diameters, which will allow passengers to build new routes through the center of the capital. On average, today the first two diameters carry more than 600 thousand passengers a day. Two following diameters will carry more than 1 million passengers, according to forecasts. This means that even more residents of the Moscow region will have access to new transport with predictable schedule and favorable fares with free interchanges to the metro», said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.
In general, in the center of the Moscow, in various parts of it, in almost all directions, global work is carried out to develop the existing infrastructure, without which it is impossible to launch the future MCD-3 and MCD-4, as well as to increase the intensity of traffic on MCD-1 and MCD-2. There are already launched two MCD lines – the MCD-1 Odintsovo-Lobnya and the MCD-2 Nakhabino-Podolsk. The total number of stations – 61, 22 of which have interchange to the metro and the MCC.
The MCD-1 was opened in 2019, the length of the diameter is 52 km, 25 stations, of which 9 stations with interchanges to the metro. The MCD-2 was also launched in 2019. Its length is 80 km, includes 36 stations, 13 of them have interchanges to the metro. The MCD-3 Leningrad-Kazansky will pass through the capital from the northwest to the southeast. The launch of the MCD-3 will improve transport accessibility for 24 Moscow districts. Its length will be 85 km. The MCD-4 Kievsko-Gorkovsky will go through the capital from west to east. It will be the longest transport artery in Moscow: its length will be 86 km.
