Wavebreaker – a new innovative sound damper that reduces noise and saves costs
Wavebreaker AB is the startup company from Lerum, Sweden, that for 5 years has developed a new innovative noise damper for traffic noise in urban environments with a focus on railways. Wavebreaker is now ready to launch the patent-pending product on an international market.
Wavebreaker boosts existing and new noise screens and can provide up to 5-7 dBA extra attenuation. This means that lower noise barriers can be built, which results in lower costs for noise protection.
The noise attenuator is based on creating destructive interference, i.e. a type of passive anti-noise. Wavebreaker is mounted on top of the noise screens and the noise-reducing effect corresponds to an increase of their heights up to 1-2 m. This means large cost savings when screen heights can be reduced accordingly.
- Wavebreaker is a patent-pending innovation with a global market potential as the urban environments abroad are normally more dense, in terms of both traffic and buildings, than in Sweden, says founder Tony Johansson.
Tony continues: - We believe that the product is right on time as noise is Europe's second biggest environmental problem. We have also had a focus on the environment and sustainability throughout the product development. Wavebreaker uses at least 50% recycled material and the modular design means that it can be both reused and recycled again easily.
Following a successful pilot project in 2021 with SL in Stockholm, financially supported by Vinnova and InfraSweden2030, the company is ready to launch Wavebreaker on the international market.
