Moscow will open 10 stations of the world's longest circle metro line by the end of 2021

10 stations of the Big Circle Line (BCL) of the Moscow Metro will open by the end of the year. This new section will be the longest one put into operation at one time; its length is about 20 km. BCL will be the longest circle metro line in the world. Its length is 70 kilometers, which is 3.5 times longer the existing Line 5 (Circle Line) and a quarter longer than the Beijing loop line (Line 10) - so far the leader in length in the world.

«10 new BCL stations will improve the accessibility of transport for residents of 11 districts of the city, where 1.4 million people live. Almost 420 thousand people will have BCL stations near the house. Muscovites will get the opportunity to use alternative routes, and they will save about 40% of their time on trips every day», — said Deputy Mayor for Transport Maksim Liksutov.

New stations were built taking into account the needs of all passengers. These stations are equipped with 34 elevators and 1 wheelchair platform lift. Audio navigation will also be installed at the stations. Sound beacons will help elderly passengers and people with visual impairments to find the entrance to the metro easier; the devices will be located above the entrances to the metro lobbies and underground crossings.

Stairs in the lobbies of 10 new BCL stations will be equipped with a heating system — in winter, it will prevent the stairs from ice formation, which means passengers, including children, will not slip.

Free high-speed Wi-Fi by Moscow Metro mobile operator will work on the new section of the BCL. Based on the MT_FREE network, passengers can use a service for assessing the occupancy of cars in the application "Moscow Metro". With this service, it is easy to choose the freest car right at the station, which is especially important during the coronavirus pandemic.

The rolling stock of BCL will have only the most modern trains "Moskva-2020". Such trains have an enlarged doorway, a wider inter-car transition, as well as USB connectors in each seat, information displays and touch screens, an automatic air disinfection system.

The Big Circle Line is the largest project implemented with the direct involvement of the Mayor of Moscow. The full launch of the BCL will take place in late 2022 - early 2023. There will be 31 stations on the BCL; passengers will be able to change to 11 metro lines, the MCC, and the MCD.

«We are gradually launching the Big Circle Line. It will be the longest underground circle metro line in the world — its length will be 70 km. After the full launch, it will be possible to change to 20 existing metro stations. This will make BCL the leader in the number of connections among all underground lines. For comparison: the Line 5 (Circle Line) connects only with 15 stations. Passengers won’t need to pass through the center or the Line 5 (Circle Line) to reach the destination», — added Maxim Liksutov.

The full launch of the BCL will have a tangible effect — the existing metro lines will become freer by up to 30%. In a few years, about 750 thousand people will use the BCL on weekdays, which will make it one of the most popular lines.

It is expected that only during rush hours passengers will make up to 100 less trips by land transport. More and more citizens will use new convenient BCL routes, and land transport will become freer. Thanks to the opening of new BCL stations, trips by land transport to the nearest metro will become shorter. Moscow also will launch and optimize more than 90 routes, so 450 thousand passengers will save up to 10 minutes on the way.
