Entrance Section of the Longest Tunnel on China-Laos Railway Completed
The tunneling of Anding Tunnel on the Yuxi-Mohan section of the China-Laos Railway reached the DK134+311 point, marking that the entrance section of Anding Tunnel was completed. The China Railway No.5 Engineering Group undertook the construction.
With a total length of 17,476 meters, Anding Tunnel travels through 21 geological faults and two synclines. The tunnel is located near the collision suture zone between the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate, and passes through the Ailao Mountains in Yunan Province. The rocks in the area are mainly grade IV and grade V surrounding rocks, which makes the tunnel a grade I high-risk tunnel.
The China Railway No.5 Engineering Group undertook the construction of the tunnel entrance section measuring 8,822 meters long. The section passes through 11 faults and one syncline. The construction area includes one entrance parallel pilot tunnel, No.1 inclined shaft and No.2 inclined shaft, and the total length of auxiliary tunnels reaches 10,854.5 meters. The construction was started on September 25, 2016. (By Wei Yuanbin, He Zengwang, and Liu Kui)
