The largest single investment in the company’s 73-year history will strengthen production in Linz. To support the expansion, the company is seeking additional employees.

On Friday, Plasser & Theurer officially inaugurated its new assembly and commissioning factory on Pummererstraße in Linz. State Secretary Sepp Schellhorn, Governor Thomas Stelzer, Regional Minister Günther Steinkellner, and Mayor Dietmar Prammer attended the inauguration. With an investment of more than 60 million euros, the family-owned company is sending a clear signal in support of Upper Austria as an industrial location. Final assembly and commissioning for track construction and maintenance machines will be brought together under one roof in a facility covering around 12,000 square metres.

Final assembly includes tasks such as laying cables and hoses, fitting engines and tanks, and mounting cabs. Commissioning is the next step and the final stage of the production process.

During this step, the machine is “switched on”, so to speak, bringing its electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems to life.

More space, shorter distances, more efficient processes

The new factory has 15 assembly stations, each 30 metres long and 8.5 metres wide. Four tracks, with a total length of just under 330 metres, are available for commissioning. For the first time, this means that the entire commissioning process can take place in a single facility. Bringing together production stages that were previously carried out in separate locations, while placing them closer to upstream operations, shortens transport distances and facilitates coordination.

Modern infrastructure for high-tech machines

By building the factory, the company is creating modern infrastructure and sufficient space to build and commission its machines – especially E³ high-tech machines with hybrid drive technology for reducing CO2 emissions – in the best possible way. The combination of a planned photovoltaic system and green roof on the factory building also has positive effects on energy efficiency and the climate. The green roof has a temperature-equalizing effect through thermal insulation, thus ensuring less energy consumption for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning while also improving air quality.

80 additional jobs

The start-up will take place in stages. By the end of the year, around 180 employees will be working at the new factory. 80 new jobs will be created.

In this way, Plasser & Theurer is investing in additional capacity and jobs at its Linz site. To support the expansion, the company is seeking additional employees, particularly electricians, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, welders, and steel fitters. Committed to the location despite a difficult landscape

“We have invested not only in a new factory building, but also in the future of our company and our employees. With this factory, we are creating 80 additional jobs and laying the foundation to serve our customers worldwide even better. We believe in our products, our workforce, and Austria as a business location – and it is this conviction that has led us to make this major investment,” says CEO Johannes Max-Theurer. “We are investing ‘in advance’. However, the landscape for the industrial location must be improved further. Austria has come under severe pressure in recent years: comparatively high energy costs, high non-wage labour costs, a shortage of skilled workers, and a massive increase in bureaucracy. Competition on the global markets, in particular, has recently become increasingly tough for strongly export-orientated companies like us. We feel it enormously, and this is where sensible policy with good judgement is required.”
