SPITZKE places large-scale order for machines with Plasser & Theurer

This major order strengthens a long-standing partnership, creating the basis for efficient construction and maintenance of highly available railway infrastructure.

A strong partnership for an efficient railway

SPITZKE, one of Germany's leading railway infrastructure companies, is fully expanding its machine fleet, placing a large-scale order with Plasser & Theurer. It comprises state-of-the-art machines for maintenance of the entire track.

SPITZKE’s investment shows it relies on Plasser & Theurer’s technological expertise and experience. The two companies are linked by a partnership spanning decades, which is characterized by a number of machines and system solutions that have been successfully implemented. The current order highlights their mutual trust and their shared aspiration to make rail infrastructure efficient, economical, and future-proof.

High-output machines for a wide range of applications

The order includes machine types for producing the correct track geometry in plain lines and turnouts, for maintaining and treating ballasted track as well as for installing and maintaining overhead contact line systems:

• one RM 900 high-capacity ballast cleaning machine
• five MFS 120 SC material conveyor and hopper units
• one Unimat 09-4x4/4S Dynamic universal tamping machine
• one USP 2010 SWS universal ballast profiling machine
• two MTW 100.216 catenary installation and maintenance machines

The RM 900 makes ballast cleaning efficient – even on high-capacity lines – during short track possessions or ones at night, outside of operating hours.

Additional functions such as a tamping unit, sweeping unit, and new-ballast supply system have been integrated, reducing interfaces and increasing efficiency. Two eccentric screening units ensure a high working output and separate high-quality ballast from contaminants. A ballast reconditioning system resharpens rounded grain and restores the contact surfaces of the ballast needed to keep the track in a stable position.

The MFS 120 SC units work in a formation with the ballast cleaning machine, handling material logistics directly on the track under construction. They ensure ballast is supplied effectively and excavated material is removed, which makes an important contribution to reducing lorry transport and CO₂ emissions. A slewing transfer conveyor allows bulk material to be unloaded from the side.

With the Unimat 09-4x4/4S Dynamic universal tamping machine, SPITZKE has a proven high-performance tool for working on plain-line tracks and turnouts. Modern measuring and stabilization technology ensures a high-quality track geometry and reduces operational restrictions after maintenance.

The USP 2010 SWS ballast profiling machine distributes and profiles the ballast in plain lines and turnouts with precision. The integrated hopper allows existing ballast to be reused where it is needed, which is conducive to resource-saving maintenance. The machine concept ensures the work is completed in the technologically correct order in a single pass.

The MTW 100.216 complements the fleet in the area of overhead contact line installation and maintenance. The extensive equipment, such as an elevating work platform and crane, allows a wide range of applications: installation, modernization, inspection, and maintenance of the overhead contact line. Self-propelled, it offers a high degree of flexibility and a wide range, even for interventions in the event of a disruption, contributing to high network availability.

Authorization according to the 4th railway package

All machines are designed for authorization in accordance with the 4th railway package. This means they fulfil strict normative specifications as well as increased safety requirements.

By procuring the new machines, SPITZKE is making a targeted investment in the future. The modern fleet enhances performance, increases worksite efficiency, and aids with sustainably developing railway infrastructure in Germany and Europe on an ongoing basis. Plasser & Theurer supports SPITZKE as a reliable technology partner – with innovative machine solutions for the challenges of tomorrow.

“We are proud to have launched this machine package. It is both a major investment in the future of our company and a clear commitment to the future tasks of our industry. Continuing to maintain and repair railway lines in Germany and Europe is an essential prerequisite for environmentally conscious and sustainable rail-bound mobility. At the same time, it is the basis for the competitiveness of the railway. With our expanded technology fleet, we are ideally positioned to strengthen our position as a leading railway infrastructure company, a safe and modern employer, and a reliable partner for Europe's railways.”
