Faced with the rapid urbanisation of our societies and the new challenges posed by climate change and soft mobility, rail transport is undergoing an unprecedented revival through new high-speed links and the renaissance of night trains.
As part of its commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, SMRT Trains has partnered Thales on a key initiative called “The Next-Generation Green CBTC Project”, which aims to reduce electricity consumption and further improve traction energy efficiency of the North-South and East-West lines (NSEWL), which are the oldest in Singapore’s rail network.
Autonomous technology gives trains new super powers. Imagine if your train could see and think for itself. It sounds like science fiction, but thanks to Thales, trains with autonomous capabilities are already becoming a reality. RailBot, the Thales autonomous solution, enables a train to interpret its surroundings, make decisions and drive itself according to its mission, without any need for human intervention.
From intercity and cross border travel to urban mobility, digitalisation is shaping the future of sustainable rail. Thales wants it safe, affordable, accessible, efficient, and resilient, while minimizing carbon and other emissions and environmental impact.
A newly awarded contract places Thales at the centre of digital trust for Network Rail Telecom (NRT), providing an enhanced cyber security posture across the entire Network Rail Enterprise.
Thales has been selected by Armco for the supply, installation and commissioning of TTC track circuits on the Çerkezköy-Kapıkule section. The TTC track circuit will provide information for predictive maintenance of the system and ensure the safety of railway operations by detecting the occupation, presence and departure of a train in a given area.
Reaffirming its strength as a trusted global transportation supplier, Thales was recently awarded a long-term services support (LTSS) contract by SMRT Trains, with support from the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA), for the continued reliability and availability of its SelTracTM Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system on the North-South and East-West lines.
Thales was awarded by TransLink two new contracts under the Expo and Millennium Line Upgrade Program to enable a 22 km expansion of the fully automated Metro Vancouver SkyTrain system, with 41 new trains expected to be in service by end of 2027.
This technological project – in the new section of Chamartín-Torrejón de Velasco of high-speed - is now completed and includes the Atocha-Chamartín high-speed tunnel. This project is key for the connection of the high-speed lines linking north and south. It provides a more convenient, comfortable and faster travel experience for travellers.
The Egyptian National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) awarded to Thales, in partnership with Orascom Construction and Colas Rail, a new contract to design and build the Telecommunications, Centralised Control and Ticketing systems for the Cairo Metro Line 4 Phase 1.
