EXPO Ferroviaria is the bi-annual leader exhibition of Italy and Europe for railway technology, products and systems.
The Opening Ceremony saw the interventions of the Councillor of Infrastructure and Public Works of Lombardy Region Claudia Maria Terzi, the Councillor of Mobility of Milan Arianna Censi, the CEO of Trenitalia Luigi Corradi, the President of FNM Group Andrea Gibelli, the President of ANIE-ASSIFER Michele Viale, the CEO of TELT Maurizio Bufalini, the CEO of Trenord Marco Piuri and the President of Ferrovie Nord Fulvio Caradonna, who discussed the innovations and trends of the industry.
EXPO Ferroviaria, organised by RX, is strongly supported by the entire industrial sector, which sees the Milanese event as an important opportunity to assess new technologies and innovations, investments, political demands and the future of freight and passengers transport. Olaf Freier – RX Transport Portfolio Director – commented: “We are pleased to see the sector's interest and participation in EXPO Ferroviaria grow year after year: it is a moment of discussion that provides professionals with new opportunities not only for business but also a space to think about and conceive the future evolution of the sector. The Italian railway market confirms itself as one of the most attractive and competitive for all international players, we can testify to this thanks to our experience in trade fairs in the sector also in other European countries”.
The railway industry market represents 5.3 billion euros in turnover for Italy, according to data from 2022 from ANIE-ASSIFER, Association of Railway Industries, which represents the Italian companies that design, create and implement the world’s most innovative technologies for electrified rail and urban transport (subways, trams). The sector today has over 18,500 direct employees and counts over EUR 1.1 billion in exports, which testify to a time of extreme importance for the railway segment, thanks also to the push generated by the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan).
INNOVATION, TECNOLOGIES AND DEDICATED AREAS
Among the 274 exhibitors are the big names of the national and international industry, including ABB, Alstom Ferroviaria, Hitachi Rail STS, Lucchini Rs Spa, MA Group, Stadler Rail, Titagarh Firema for the rolling stock technologies sector; while for infrastructures Mermec, Thermit Italiana, Cembre, Hexagon, Pantecnica and many others. Alstom is also showcasing the Traxx DC3, the latest generation high-power electric locomotive that maximises energy efficiency, reduces maintenance interventions to a minimum and provides greater load capacity and traction with lower consumption. The E-L0, a new electric locomotive from ELEN MACHINES, is also presented on the Fiorenza Trenord tracks, an innovative green vehicle for the maintenance of railway lines.
On the indoors tracks of Hall 9, Stadler Rail and EAV (Ente Autonomo Volturno) showcase the mock-up of the central car of the new electric trains for the Circumvesuviana line. Stadler, in collaboration with ARST, FDC (Ferrovie della Calabria) and FAL (Ferrovie Appulo Lucane) presents the new "Green Technology" trains - with hydrogen propulsion system and batteries - planned to operate in the regions of Sardinia, Calabria, Puglia and Basilicata.
This 11th edition also boasts spaces dedicated to complementary technologies, acting as a real showcase on the technologies and innovations that will be part of the railway system of tomorrow. The exhibition hall includes several areas that present specific technologies and new commercial opportunities for the industry. The Aerospace Technology Hub is an area dedicated to companies that present aerospace technologies applied to the railway sector.
