EXPO FERROVIARIA 2021 BROUGHT TOGETHER 10,000 RAIL PROFESSIONALS OF WHICH 7000 WERE TRADE VISITORS. AN EVENT THAT CONFIRMS ITSELF AS A REFERENCE POINT FOR THE RAILWAY INDUSTRY IN ITALY

The 10th edition of EXPO Ferroviaria, the event dedicated to the international railway industry, has closed its doors at Rho Fiera Milano in Milan, Italy.
Italy's only trade exhibition for the sector brought together 10,000 industry experts, of which some 7,000 were visitors, including managers, executives and engineers, and 188 exhibitors from 14 countries. The next edition of EXPO Ferroviaria will come back in Milan in autumn 2023, from 3 to 5 October.

For the first time, EXPO Ferroviaria also had a digital component, allowing participants to attend online seminars, exhibitors' presentations and conferences, and arrange meetings on the dedicated platform. The associated events, organised in partnership with partners and exhibitors, were an essential part of this edition, comprehending 19 sessions hosted in the two dedicated Forums. In addition, the event opened with the opening ceremony where Luigi Corradi, CEO and General Manager, Trenitalia; Aldo Colombo, General Manager of Infrastructures, Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Lombardy Region; Andrea Gibelli, President, FNM; Marco Piuri, CEO, Trenord; Giuseppe Gaudiello, President of ANIE-ASSIFER and Mario Virano, General Director at TELT intervened.

To support the event, Enrico Giovannini - Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility - sent a message on the first day that reaffirmed the centrality of rail transport in Italy and the importance of the ecological and digital transition to favour the modal shift. Numerous innovations were presented during the three days in Milan, including: ATM and Stadler unveiled the 1: 1 scale mock-up of the Tramlink, the future 100% electric tram in the city of Milan; Trenord, in collaboration with the FNM Group and Alstom, presented the H2IseO project for the entry into service of the first hydrogen trains on the Brescia-Iseo-Edolo line by 2024; RFI - Rete Ferroviaria Italiana has announced the launch of 55 tenders of various nature and scope, such as to open the market to a wide range of operators, for a total amount of 6 billion euros.

In addition, particular attention was given to the future of rail, thanks to the 7th awarding ceremony of "DITECFER Railway Innovation Contest 2021": three most promising 'made in Italy' innovations, developed by SMEs, were acknowledged, with digitisation as a driver that allows offering greater safety and improved and less expensive maintenance of railway assets. The winners were Te.Si.Fer., IVM and ETS.

"EXPO Ferroviaria was a huge success. After COVID, it was the first major face-to-face exhibition of the rail industry in Italy. There is nothing better than meeting in person to build lasting relationships, meet colleagues and learn about innovations. These last three days have allowed the entire industry to get back on track through meaningful meetings and content that is topical and of critical importance. The railway industry is back on track, and it was palpable"
, comments Olaf Freier, Portfolio Director for EXPO Ferroviaria and the Transport Portfolio at Mack-Brooks Exhibitions.

In addition, ICE - Agency for the promotion abroad and internationalisation of Italian firms - and Anie organised 170 bilateral meetings between companies and 14 foreign delegates from Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Portugal, the United States, Tunisia and Turkey.

EXPO Ferroviaria 2021 Show partners represent both the supply sectors and the leading railway service in Italy. Amongst them were Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, FNM Group, FERROVIENORD, TRENORD, ANIE-ASSIFER – Italian Railway Industry Association, ANIAF - National Association of Railway Track Construction, ANCEFERR - National Association of Railway Constructors, ASSTRA – Transport Association, CIFI – Board of Italian Railway Engineers, D.R. The event is organised by Mack-Brooks Exhibitions (www.mackbrooks.com/about), which also organises SIFER in France, scheduled in October 2021 and Railtex and Infrarail in the UK in May 2022. The rail exhibitions together aim to support the recovery of the European railway market.
