Vossloh wins contract for the supply of rail fastening systems to Uruguay

To advance rail freight traffic and sustainably improve the inland connections with the capital Montevideo, Uruguay Central Railroad is planning numerous modernizations e.g. of railway bridges and stations as well as the construction of a 273 km long railway line between Montevideo and Paso de los Toros in the heartland of the country. Called Ferrocarril Central, this railway infrastructure project is one of the biggest private investment in the history of Uruguay. Work started in February 2020 and the reopening of the Ferrocarril Central line is expected for 2022.

Vossloh wins contract for the supply of rail fastening systems to Uruguay

  • First Vossloh project in Uruguay
  • Production of W 21 rail fastening system for 273 km long new railway line
  • Deliveries in 2020 and 2021

Vossloh has already produced the first two delivery lots of the W 21 rail fastening system ready for shipment. The W system is especially designed for concrete sleepers on ballasted track and, thanks to its composition, allows very flexible adjustment to accommodate project-specific demands, e.g. where special rigidity or vibration requirements have to be met in individual sections. The elastic rail pad made of cellentic reliably absorbs the forces and thus guarantees a stable rail subsidence. With its optimized geometry and water repellent material, the screw-dowel combination NG ensures an excellent transfer of the loads into the concrete sleeper. It is not only able to withstand extreme loads but also has the additional benefit that its production causes fewer carbon emissions. Altogether, the precise design rating of the components tailored to the local requirements of the conventional line will be gentle on both the sleeper and the track bed structure. This will sustainably reduce the life-cycle costs of the entire infrastructure and safeguard the investment for the long term.
