China expands high-speed and overnight sleeper services

A new national timetable was introduced in China on December 30 2019 which increases the number of passenger trains by 263.5 per day to reach 4816.5 daily round trips.

China expands high-speed and overnight sleeper services
Part of the increase is due to the opening of new high-speed lines such as Beijing – Zhangjiakou – Datong/Hohhot and the Chongli Railway with 39 trains/day/direction. Services are running more frequently on other high-speed lines. For example, the Nanchang – Ganzhou section of the Beijing – Hong Kong high-speed rail now has 31 trains/day/direction and the Chengdu – Guiyang high-speed line has 44 trains/day/direction.

China National Railway (CR) is also adding nine daily EMU sleeper trains. This includes a new direct sleeper service between Hangzhou and Qingdao which has cut the journey time between the two cities from 22h 12min to 13h 17min. Seven new overnight sleeper trains are now running from Beijing to Nanchang, Sanming, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Jinggangshan, and Fuzhou. The other new sleeper train runs from Jinggangshan to Nanchang, via Jingjiu, Changfu, Fengfu, and Jiheng.

CR has also adjusted timings on several routes to make travel easier for passengers and to optimise the capacity of major stations.
