Siemens-led consortium launches autonomous tram project in Germany
A consortium led by Siemens Mobility has planned to take up a fully automated tram depot research project in Potsdam, Germany.
British transport operator South Western Railway has selected Infor’s asset management software to enhance control, visibility, and compliance of its rolling stock.Infor Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) platform will be used by the train company to consolidate and modernise its maintenance processes.
The solution will be deployed, serviced and hosted by Sapphire Systems, a partner of Infor.
South Western Railway operates over 1,800 services each weekday to more than 200 stations. The operator will deploy the solution for 200 users.
The solution will also enable the train operator to comply with ISO 55001.
Infor added that its asset management software will also expedite and improve decision-making for the transport provider by facilitating defects to be registered instantly through tablets.
By consolidating all data in one place, it will allow managers to plan and allocate resources suitably and boost the availability of services.
South Western Railway head of continuous improvement Adam Carter said: “Infor EAM will allow us to view everything in one place, driving greater efficiency and the agility to react and rectify defects quickly.
“The user-friendliness of Infor EAM, combined with Sapphire’s in-depth knowledge, has resulted in a faster roll-out, allowing us to utilise the benefits of the system much quicker.”
Infor EAM technical product evangelist Kevin Price said: “In the transportation industry, standards are everything, and having a system that facilitates both ISO 55001 and maximising availability for the smooth running of the fleet is paramount to success.
“Having the visibility not only to plan maintenance and manage warranties effectively, but to detect and rectify defects as they are spotted, is only possible by having the best EAM systems. Through its deployment of Infor EAM, South Western Railway is amongst those leading best practice.”
