4F – Fret Ferroviaire Français du Futur is a strategic alliance created to unite key players across the rail freight value chain in France. Established with a clear ambition to double the modal share of rail freight by 2030, the alliance brings together railway operators, logistics firms, industry federations, and infrastructure stakeholders to promote low-carbon freight transport. 4F supports national efforts to shift freight from road to rail, in line with climate goals, decarbonization strategies, and sustainable logistics. Through coordinated advocacy and strategic planning, 4F contributes to mobility efficiency, economic resilience, and the greening of supply chains across France and Europe.
The introduction of longer, higher and heavier European Modular Systems (EMS) is incompatible with the Commission’s commitment to increase rail freight by 50 % in 2030 and 100 % in 2050, as set out in the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy.
